Why Literacy + STEM Is the Future—And Why Your School Should Care
In today’s classrooms, educators face two mounting challenges: ensuring students can read proficiently and preparing them for a future shaped by technology, innovation, and critical thinking. What if we told you that one after-school program could address both?
Books, Bots, and Beyond is a groundbreaking after-school initiative that fuses foundational literacy with hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) exploration. It’s not just a tutoring program or a robotics club—it’s an integrated learning experience designed to unlock student potential by connecting the power of reading with the promise of innovation.
Reading Is the Launchpad for All Learning
Before students can code, conduct science experiments, or analyze data, they must first be able to read. Literacy isn’t a side subject—it’s the gateway to every discipline. Yet in far too many schools, students struggle to gain the reading skills they need to access higher-level content, particularly in STEM subjects where comprehension is essential.
Books, Bots, and Beyond starts with literacy—powered by the Institute for Multi-Sensory Education (IMSE), anational leader in Science of Reading-based curriculum. Then it brings literacy to life through STEM, experiments, and tech challenges that spark imagination and develop real-world skills.
Why This Matters to Schools Right Now
Student outcomes are under pressure. Reading scores have dropped nationwide, and STEM preparedness remains deeply unequal.
Afterschool time is a missed opportunity. Most extended day programs are underutilized or disconnected from academic priorities.
Budgets are tight. Schools want impactful, evidence-based programming—but often can’t afford to take a risk on something new.
That’s why Books, Bots, and Beyond offers something different: a full year of programming, completely free to schools, in exchange for a simple commitment—to give the program a fair shot and apply for continued funding once it proves results. No strings. Just opportunity.
Built for All Types of Schools and organizations—and All Types of Students
This program isn’t limited to a select group of schools or organizations. It’s intentionally designed to be scalable, inclusive, and high-impact, no matter the size or setting. Whether urban or rural, Title I or charter, non-profit or after-school program, we work with schools and organizations that are ready to champion student growth.
Each site receives:
A IMSE-Certified Instructor/s from Strands of Accelerated Reading (SOAR)
A rigorous, multisensory literacy program aligned with the Science of Reading, Powered by IMSE
Engaging, age-appropriate STEM experiences that build confidence and curiosity created by Dyslexic Edge, an IMSE partner since 2023 and has been ranked #2 STEM program in the Washington, DC region.
Ongoing support from the National Literacy Coalition and IMSE Foundation
More Than a Program—A Partnership
This is not just an enrichment program; it’s a partnership grounded in measurable results. Our mission is to demonstrate that when literacy and STEM are taught together—and taught with fidelity —students don’t just improve academically. They thrive.
We’re not asking for a handout. We’re offering a proven, award-winning modelthat we’ll bring to your school for a year, at no cost, with full transparency and shared accountability. With the help of philanthropic donors, we’re putting opportunity in motion. Now we need schools ready to seize it.
Let’s Build the Future—Together
Whether you’re a superintendent, a principal, or a donor committed to education equity, Books, Bots, and Beyond offers a powerful opportunity: to empower students with the skills, confidence, and vision to shape their futures—starting with a book and a bot.
